JAIL-madhur's next

Close to six months after he last called the shots for Fashion, Madhur Bhandarkar is back on the director's chair. He will be beginning the shoot of his prison drama Jail from today in a start to finish schedule that will last till mid-May."Yes, the entire schedule has been locked and plans are in place. We are starting the film with a small 'muhurat' today following which we embark on a 50-60 day journey. We don't intend to take any breaks in between and wrap up the principal shoot by 15th May", says Madhur who is visibly excited about kick starting Jail that is said to be gritty and yet another realistic take on affairs. Yet again, there has been heavy research done on the film's subject with emphasis on bringing real aspects on screen. Whether it is locations to mannerisms of inmates to happenings inside the walls to the costumes - all has been worked upon with great precision to ensure that every frame boasts of perfection. "Last six months have been hectic, strenuous and quite productive too. Even as Fashion was being wrapped up, me and my team were already on the job", says Madhur Bhandarkar. "We already had some good material in place and the next step was to meet people who are connected to prisons in one way or other." And who could these people possibly be? "From a jail inmate to lawyers to convicts to bureaucrats, we went across the whole gamut and collected as much as information as we could to lend that certain authenticity to the film. Jail is a sensitive subject and there was no way I could play around with the subject or the screenplay. This is one film which I have to handle with utmost care", says Madhur who promises to succeed in exposing the underbelly of a world (read prison life) which is unknown to viewers. Jail, which stars Neil Nitin Mukesh as the central protagonist with Mugdha Godse and Manoj Bajpai in other principal roles, will be shot in and around Mumbai. Moreover, scenes will be shot in the same order as they appear in the film. Due to this, contrary to popular belief, it won't be the prison scenes that would be filmed first but some light hearted sequences. "We begin with romantic scenes between Neil and Mugdha", smiles Madhur, "As the character graph progresses, we will make a foray into the 'jail' location as well." Jail, is a co-production of Percept Picture Company and Bhandarkar Entertainment.
