'13B' to be remade by Hollywood?

'13 B' - fear has a new address

There are innumerable instances of Indian film-makers openly lifting Hollywood films and remaking them in various Indian languages. But, surprisingly, a Hollywood studio is keen on remaking a Hindi film, after acquiring its legitimate remaking rights from its producers. The film in question is the just-released 13B.Confirms Jawahar Sharma, COO - International Film Business, Big Pictures, "The studios in West are recognising the enormous talent in India, especially young film-makers and writers.

There's tremendous pool of talent that needs to be tapped. The subject of 13B is such, it can easily crossover to the Western audiences, if made in international languages." A leading studio has evinced keen interest in the script of 13B. "No, they haven't watched the film yet. I presume, they must've gone through the synopsis and found it interesting," Jawahar continues, "See, horror films made in Japan and Korea have already got international recognition. They [the studio] feel that 13B also has the potential to strike a chord with Western audiences."

slumdog - critical

personnely everone can feel anything for slumdog.
Everyone has his/her right to express his/her personnel feelings towards anything. You can call a movie piece of shit though 10 million appreciated and liked it. It's extremely personnel, also called nature or prakriti of any human being which normally is congenital and depends on your up growing, culture, friend's circle, reading, writing and obviously film going habit which makes you YOU-different from others.

Critically everone needs to get into the core.
FILM CRITICISM
You need to think about basic film criticism theory before you begin. Should start with positive points first. Personally I am also not a great fan of "slumdog…." but we need to appreciate some of its innovative film language and grammar and new meanings.

Quality of a film depends not only on box office but more on….
Production value
Production limitations - time, location and budget, stars, makers, genre, third world story and many more.
Genre and the filming style -Documented film or propaganda filming with tits and bits of satirical fiction.
Highest high and lowest low theory/ comparison theory.
Every film is a single piece of element not a compound. Incomparable and with its unique features, physical and chemical properties.
PLUSES
Facts and satires on Indian realism.
Theme of the film is "No Need to be Genius. Experience Teaches a Lot" and the point is how much you did justice to the theme through the art and science of the film - a unique blend of audio and video rather than single dimensional black texts on white paper.
Great screenplay. One main plot, three subplots with unification of character but in different time and different location with different multicultural actions.
Taut editing. The transitions are simply great. Montages are really cut very economically regarding time, frame and effect.
Indian cinematic style and drama could be new to the world with musical sense.
POV filmmaking.
Involvement of questions that has cross cut over the world.

Child jumps into excreta - tells the amitabh's position and craze in bollywood and more ever it’s the first question's answer that needs to be told in a very dramatic and craziest way so as to make the viewers feel it's really no need to be genius to know some answers. One who can jump into human excreta to have a glimpse of amitabh obviously knows the answer. Autograph and selling it to someone watching amitabh's films are subtexts and reading between the lines. HIGHEST HIGH AND LOWEST LOW THEORY.
Compare between India and America is an irony. It has subtext of Indian poverty and American donors and INGOs. COMPARISION THEORY.
There is nothing written but yet there is nothing that can't be written. The kid is misunderstood as a tourist guide as he was standing near the tourist guide board while trying to thief shoes. He can't refuse the money and get into a new business of tourist guide and start to tell false things about the Tajmahal-it is realism of India and huge satire as well. The main point of these scenes is time lapse to show the number of events that happened to the main character so that time is letting him chances to learn new things every next day. Personally, its one of my favorite scene, I have faced those street kids while I was there.
Great montages.
Amitabh's montages and clips add new horizon to the movie.
A simple theme of love and tragedy of entirely Indian taste compelled American viewers. I can tell u more than million subtexts of the film if u r really interested.

Performance is worthy. Esp of kids.
Please do not compare with big production movies like "saving private ryan" or milk or Benjamin etc. they are great but with different story and limitations.
In filmmaking and for academy award, what I know through my studies and teachers is "its not what, its how that matters" and more ever production limitations are there.
Never start a films criticism with drawbacks- Sergie Einstein - one of the first film critics in world.

Many scenes are shot in open form not in studios as Hollywood does. Shooting a film in realism and yet in third world is ….. I can't tell.
Its worthy picture to get the awards.

Freida Pinto may become the next Bond girl and star opposite Daniel Craig

Ever since Slumdog Millionaire won world wide recognition in the form of Golden Globes, Baftas and the Oscars, the stars of the film, including Anil Kapoor and Freida Pinto are both lining up in what may seem as the quickest migration from Bollywood to Hollywood. The first to be bitten by the H-bug is the sexy Mumbaikar, Freida Pinto. Having won the hearts of many on the red carpets the world over, the sultry actress who is now linked with her Slumdog co-star Dev Patel is on the verge of signing her biggest date with fame. According to our sources from London, the 24 year old actress was first spotted by producers during the casting for Quantum of Solace. Hollywood's newest and the hottest property has arrived in the form of Pinto. What's more, Slumdog director Danny Boyle is now being asked to direct the next Bond film staring Daniel Craig. Now if everything falls in place at the right time, Freida's chances of staring along side the blonde Bond may just not look like a distant dream. Why? Because it's Danny on the director's chair who'll may recommend Freida. Our sources from the U.K have confirmed, "Freida came to the attention of the Bond team when they were casting for Quantum of Solace. She was too young at the time to have a part as a love interest for a secret agent. But she has blossomed into an incredibly stunning young woman and would look perfect in Daniel's arm. Even the executive producer Barbara Broccoli is eager for her to join the cast."India is already known in the cinema fraternity as the world's biggest movie making country, then came along Satyajit Ray and Bhanu Athaiya who took the Oscars, followed by A.R Rahman and Resul Pookutty this year. Whether or not Freida will win an Oscar is a long dream but if she lands a role opposite Craig, it'll be nothing short of an Oscar. That's not it. Freida has also become London's latest pin up girl. First it was Danny Boyle and now its actor director Woody Allen who has signed the Indian actress in his new untitled film, which also stars Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin and Sir Anthony Hopkins. After basking in the success of his latest film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Allen is keen on signing our Indian temptress who is now termed as Woody's latest muse. The question is, will Freida Pinto attempt to conquer London after Woody's last three movies that were shot in the capital - Match Point, Scoop and Cassandra's Dream failed to live up to expectations? Will she be the lucky for Woody and Bond? Time, my friend, is a cruel mistress, and we can't wait for the right time to arrive for this Indian beauty.

Danny Boyle has chosen short film Manjha to be a part of SM Blu-ray disc

The Oscar winning director Danny Boyle will be releasing his film Slumdog Millionaire on Blu-ray soon and he has chosen a short film called Manjha to be part of this Blu-ray DVD release. Manjha is directed by Rahi Anil Barve who is currently busy preparing for his directorial debut with White Cloud Pictures. His forthcoming venture is titled Tumbad which is based on folk tales of Maharashtra with an underlay of horror.Rahi is in all praises by the who's who of the industry. Anurag Kashyap who is the Creative Producer of Rahi's film says, "Rahi Anil Barve is the most imaginative mind I have come across in this country so far. His imagination gives me a complex. When I met him the first time, it did not take me two seconds to say that lets do whatever you want to do which ever way you want to do it." Danny Boyle is also going ga-ga about this. Danny said, "I'm delighted to include Manjha on the Blu-ray DVD release of Slumdog Millionaire throughout the world. Manjha is an extraordinary film. With little resources it is visually stunning and emotionally captivating. Surprising and gripping, it's everything a short film should be, and I look forward with great anticipation to the director Rahi's next project Tumbad."

JAIL-madhur's next

Close to six months after he last called the shots for Fashion, Madhur Bhandarkar is back on the director's chair. He will be beginning the shoot of his prison drama Jail from today in a start to finish schedule that will last till mid-May."Yes, the entire schedule has been locked and plans are in place. We are starting the film with a small 'muhurat' today following which we embark on a 50-60 day journey. We don't intend to take any breaks in between and wrap up the principal shoot by 15th May", says Madhur who is visibly excited about kick starting Jail that is said to be gritty and yet another realistic take on affairs. Yet again, there has been heavy research done on the film's subject with emphasis on bringing real aspects on screen. Whether it is locations to mannerisms of inmates to happenings inside the walls to the costumes - all has been worked upon with great precision to ensure that every frame boasts of perfection. "Last six months have been hectic, strenuous and quite productive too. Even as Fashion was being wrapped up, me and my team were already on the job", says Madhur Bhandarkar. "We already had some good material in place and the next step was to meet people who are connected to prisons in one way or other." And who could these people possibly be? "From a jail inmate to lawyers to convicts to bureaucrats, we went across the whole gamut and collected as much as information as we could to lend that certain authenticity to the film. Jail is a sensitive subject and there was no way I could play around with the subject or the screenplay. This is one film which I have to handle with utmost care", says Madhur who promises to succeed in exposing the underbelly of a world (read prison life) which is unknown to viewers. Jail, which stars Neil Nitin Mukesh as the central protagonist with Mugdha Godse and Manoj Bajpai in other principal roles, will be shot in and around Mumbai. Moreover, scenes will be shot in the same order as they appear in the film. Due to this, contrary to popular belief, it won't be the prison scenes that would be filmed first but some light hearted sequences. "We begin with romantic scenes between Neil and Mugdha", smiles Madhur, "As the character graph progresses, we will make a foray into the 'jail' location as well." Jail, is a co-production of Percept Picture Company and Bhandarkar Entertainment.

how is that? 8 oscars.

There was a time when nobody ever wanted visit the slums nor even utter the word 'slum' as it was considered as more taboo than taboo itself. Enter Danny Boyle, the man with the Golden wand, and thus, the taboo related with slums not just became history but also created history at the Oscars, no less, courtesy Slumdog Millionaire! The renowned cartoonist Morparia is the latest one to be 'encashing' on the global popularity of the film Slumdog Millionaire. This cartoon comes after the worldwide success of a film that paved India's space straight into the global cinema space. While each and every person concerned with this film is busy answering the (congratulatory) calls from everywhere, this cartoon depicts the causal morning conversation that the slum dwellers have while answering to the Nature's call! One such character asks the other as to 'Don't you feel proud to be an Indian today?'

slumdog-big winner

Oscar Nominations: 'Slumdog Millionaire,' big winner'Benjamin Button,' Mickey Rourke and Kate Winslet are in distinguished company.
By Jocelyn Vena and Gil Kaufman found at mtv.com
The Oscars are almost here, and since the nominations came out a month ago, we thought we'd remind you of who is up for the gold Sunday night (February 22).
As expected, Heath Ledger, Kate Winslet and "Doubt" managed to capture the hearts of the Academy. It may be surprising to some, however, that "The Dark Knight" didn't find its way on the Best Picture and Best Director ballots for the 81st annual ceremony. Instead the Best Picture race looked almost identical to the lineup of this year's Golden Globes nominees, with nods for "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button," "The Reader," "Frost/Nixon," "Milk" and Slumdog Millionaire
All four leads in the religious drama "Doubt" were nominated for the awards, which will air on ABC. Kate Winslet was not able to repeat her double-dipping in the lead and supporting roles categories at the Globes, earning a Best Actress Oscar nod for her role as a former Nazi in "The Reader," but not for work as a housewife trapped in a drowning marriage in "Revolutionary Road." Her "Revolutionary Road" co-star and good friend Leonardo DiCaprio was shut out from the Best Actor category.
Nominated alongside Winslet are Anne Hathaway ("Rachel Getting Married"), Angelina Jolie ("The Changeling"), Melissa Leo ("Frozen River") and Meryl Streep ("Doubt").
Ledger, who won in the supporting actor category at the Golden Globes, faces another formidable slate of actors, including Josh Brolin ("Milk"), Robert Downey, Jr. ("Tropic Thunder"), and Philip Seymour Hoffman ("Doubt").
The Best Director category will find "Button" director David Fincher going up against such fellow veterans as Ron Howard ("Frost/Nixon"), Gus Van Sant ("Milk"), Stephen Daldry ("The Reader") and Danny Boyle ("Slumdog Millionaire").
In addition to the DiCaprio snub, the Best Actor group featured at least one surprise: the inclusion of longtime character actor Richard Jenkins for his role in "The Visitor." He will compete against Frank Langella ("Frost/Nixon"), Sean Penn ("Milk"), Brad Pitt ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") and resurgent Golden Globe winner Mickey Rourke, for his bruising take on the life of a washed-up grappler in "The Wrestler."
Rourke's co-star in that film, Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei, was also honored, earning a Best Supporting Actress nod for her role as a stripper. The category also includes Amy Adams ("Doubt"), Pen?lope Cruz ("Vicky Cristina Barcelona"), Viola Davis ("Doubt") and Taraji P. Henson ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button").
The nominees for Best Animated Feature are "Bolt," "Kung Fu Panda" and "Wall-E." Miley Cyrus' Globe-nominated "Bolt" track, "I Thought I Lost You," didn't receive a nomination for Best Original Song. Instead, "Down to Earth" from "Wall-E" (Peter Gabriel), "Jai Ho" from "Slumdog Millionaire" (A.R. Rahman) and "O Saya" from "Millionaire" (Rahman and M.I.A.) will be up for the award.
Though it washed out in the directing and best picture nominations, "Knight" racked up seven nominations in addition to Ledger's: Art Direction, Cinematography, Film Editing, Makeup, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects.
The nominees for Adapted Screenplay are "Button," "Doubt," "Frost/Nixon," "The Reader" and "Slumdog Millionaire." The Original Screenplay category pits "Frozen River" against "Happy-Go-Lucky," "In Bruges," "Milk" and "Wall-E."
While some of the year's biggest and best-loved flicks didn't make it into the major categories, they managed to slip into some of the technical ones. "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" got an Achievement in Makeup bid, for instance, and "Iron Man" was nominated for Sound Editing and Visual Effects.
